I tried you workaround but get this error:

~$ sudo apt-get install fglrx=2:8.9.60-0ubuntu1
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Version '2:8.9.60-0ubuntu1' for 'fglrx' was not found
