Linux is not good for Desktop

I think it eminently "good for the desktop", but you have to find the
right distribution that meets your needs. I tend to favour the Debian
based distributions with a MATE desktop, as I just cannot get along
with the unity shell, and this has turned me away from the vanilla
Ubuntu and Ubuntu derivitives.
At the moment, I am using Linux Lite (with an xfce desktop) just
because I have to. Its fine for purpose, although I can't find a way
to move between, say, xfce and MATE. Someone on this list (I've lost
the mail) suggested I use NotaLinux, which really does cut the mustard
if you can get past the 'flying plectrums (plectra?)' on the greeting
screen.
Linux is certainly fit for the desktop, and I have no trouble with the
operation of my Mikomi webcam (except that it doesn't clip to my screen
easily). If you want anonymity, there is Tor and JAP proxy; if
security, there are easy VPN and lockdown procedures to make it simple.
Look around and you will find a distribution that meets YOUR needs....
