USB-wireless peripheral problems

I have a Microsoft wireless keyboard & mouse and since a few kernel
updates (I guess since November) first my mouse but now also my keyboard
stops working. I have reverted to a cables peripherals which work
normally. I therefore suspect something in a driver has changed as the
wired peripherals work.
Has anybody a clue? The only remedy to let it work is a reboot. Has
anybody an idea how to reset the driver? The strange stung is also that,
although I have removed the receiver (USB-port) lsusb still shows the
receiver as mounted:
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 045e:0745 Microsoft Corp. Nano Transceiver v1.0
for Bluetooth.
I find this very strange behaviour.
My system: AMD phantom II 4-core;4 GB memory: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, fully
updated.
Hopefully anybody has experience with it or has a solution. It is not
useful to report it as a bug as 12.04 LTS will be replaced in April with
14.04.
