Can't boot the system after an update

None of these are straight fixes - without more info, we can't say
what's wrong; you tell us nothing about your computer, what OS(es) you
have, anything - we can't diagnose a problem.
Some things to try:
* unplug or disable as much hardware as possible
* update your motherboard firmware
* boot in single-user mode and run `fsck` on your root filesystem (and
any others)
