sanitizing disc

Dear helpful people,

I can't help but wonder how we got from lending a disk out to a friend 
to a discussion on whether physical destruction of the disc is better 
than total software desctruction of the data. I doubt we're doing the OP 
a favour with this discussion... only the military will be interested in 
this banter. Or actually they won't, because i'm pretty sure they have 
procedures in place for this.

It's like a farmer asking which tractor he should buy, and you tell him 
to get a Ferrari. Yes it has a lot of BHP but it is probably not what he 
wanted.
