I'm definitely not an expert on soundconverter, so take this with a grain of salt. Hopefully, someone with more experience will chime in. I'm just a "tinkerer." :D
Here are a couple of suggestions for your consideration.
1) apt-get remove --purge soundconverter, then reinstall the packages in the ubuntu repo. There may be a compatibility issue with the plugins and the version you're running (2.1.4)
2) If you pulled down 2.1.4. from the dev's git repo (I only assume this since Utopic is running 2.1.3), do they have updates to the plugins? That may be something to look for.
Your plugin versions seem to be out of date, but perhaps you're on an older release, which may indicate plugin incompatibility...but that's not definite (note that I'm on Utopic, so if you're on Trusty, it'll be different). This may indicate changes to gstreamer or soundconverter make SC incompatible with older plugin versions, etc.
gstreamer0.10-plugins-base 0.10.36-2
gstreamer0.10-plugins-good 0.10.31-3+nmu1ubuntu5
gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly 0.10.19-2ubuntu5
gstreamer1.0-plugins-ugly 1.4.2-1
3) Another option is to ask this on the Ubuntu-Studio mailing list, since they've probably dealt with bleeding edge audio file issues.
Sorry I couldn't help any more than that.
