As I'd mentioned earlier Dave I had been seeing this however that issue
went away it seems on the afternoon of 13 Dec. Since then about every
12hrs or so maybe more or less I'd see just a black screen with a mouse
cursor that I could move but not get back to the system. I was able to
reboot by CTRL>ALT>F1 login and run 'sudo reboot'. After some
conversations on the #ubuntu IRC channel I upgraded to kernel:
Linux localhost 3.14.0-031400-generic #201403310035 SMP Mon Mar 31
04:36:23 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
which so far has been running great going on 3 days. There is one more
update to the above kernel I've found but since this one is working,
knock on wood, I'm just going to go along with this one for awhile and
see how it goes.
