Have you tried a different bkd and a different usb port?
While this could be software, hardware is more likely.
Bad kbd or bad (noisy) usb port.


Yes it's USB

I now have a third brand new keyboard that is behaving exactly as the other two.

This afternoon it had begun to sort of work, I could type very slowly, if I held a key for slightly longer than normal.

I'm  going to download and try a live DVD tomorrow to see if it behaves.
