Keyboard won't accept input

I have a similar setup, through a KVM switch. My keyboard stopped
working intermitantly also. I change the batteries and it was fine.

The keyboard is a K 800 which does have user inserted batteries.
I've put rechargeable ni-cads in it and it connects via USB to recharge every so often.

It does work alright under WIndows. Just to be completely sure though, I took them out and tested them - plenty of juice - but put in a new pair anyway.
That's the last of the hardware possibilities unless the KVM can tell the difference between Windows and Ubuntu.

However I did find that when I obsessively keep trying to type, it will
catch one key press out of... maybe a hundred and then go back to playing dead again.
