Keyboard won't accept input

I'm running Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 using a Logitech wireless keyboard through a KVM switch. 

I was working last night when the keyboard suddenly stopped working . 
The hardware seems fine as it works when I switch to the Windows machine. 
I haven't got a clue where to start troubleshooting - or how for that matter. 
I can cut and paste but cannot type, in a terminal or any application. 

Where/how do I begin sorting this out?
