Connecting a tablet to my home network

Running Ubuntu 12.04 and the tablet is a Samsung/Nook Tab 4.

The tablet will use my wireless router to connect to the internet, but 
with one exception cannot see anything on my home network and nothing on 
the network can see it.  The exception is if I tap the Samsung printer 
plugin the tablet can see my network printer.

Is it possible to get the devices to talk to each other on my home network?
