xscreensaver was dropped from the default install in 8.04 ...
from 8.04 til trusty ubuntu used gnome-screensaver ... which was
discontinued upstream (since the screensaver became a gnome-shell
function)
with trusty the screensaver became a unity module ....
i think there is an option in the unity-tweak tool to disable the
builtin screensaver in unity so you could just install xscreensaver and
use it instead.
