With Ubuntu or one built on Ubuntu you really can do 99% with the
Software Center and Synaptic Package Manager. It depends on how new or
old you PC is. The old the PC is if the more you mite want to go with a
lighter Linux. I would not do the dual boot thing just have two hard
drives. Just down load the live DVD of one and try it. It will be a lot
slower than when you put it on the hard drive. I do use the terminal
mostly copy and paste at first. Then you can learn as much or as little
about the terminal don't let the terminal keep you from Linux. Most
people I known don't even known there is a terminal in windows. It is
easy to get help on the forum or you tube. Try it you will like it. I
really don't see how someone could do half their work form the command
line once you have a PC set up and running. I do use the command a lot
with nmap. But most people don't run that program.
Good Luck and God Bless Johnny 68+++ and still ticking
