There's no password on the Live media. That's why it doesn't ask.
Here is what you do:
[1] Back up anything important
[2] Insert Windows disc, boot from it
[3] Reinstall Windows
[4] PC will now only boot into Windows -- no Ubuntu menu any more
[5] Update Windows, get it all working, *then*
[6] Insert Ubuntu disk, boot from it
[7] Follow the steps on that page
[8] Reboot
Now your boot menu should be back in place and you can choose which OS to run.
I recommend updating Windows *before* you restore the bootloader, as
it is possible (but not very likely) that some Windows updates might
remove it again.
