Firefox "forgets" toolbar widgets

While I'm complaining, here's another one :-)
Firefox often - usually within a few hours of use - "forgets" widgets I
have added to the toolbar. Or maybe the widgets are removing themselves,
I don't know.
Ghostery seems pretty fixed, hasn't disappeared yet (odd for a ghost),
and AdBlock seems pretty set in its ways too. But the Downloads arrow,
DownloadHelper add-on, NoScript add-on and Zoom Page add-on all just
vanish from the toolbar for no apparent reason.
I've never actually seen them go - but when I want to use them, they're
often gone.
Easy enough to put them back - right click the toolbar, choose
"customise" and drag them back to where I want them, but why are they
disappearing?
It's not as simple and not surviving a restart. If I close all Firefox
windows, check with "ps" that Firefox is definitely not running, then
restart Firefox, the widgets are still where I left them. But use
Firefox for a few hours and eventually they will be gone (cue "Twilight
Zone" theme tune)...
Any ideas?
Yours puzzledly, K.
