Further to my previous mail ...

The file /boot/grub/grubenv is a preallocated 1024-byte file [1]. If I
understand it correctly, this file is loaded by grub as an environment.
And usually "#" characters are comment chracters, so if there are only
"#"s in that file it should be OK because it is the equivalent of an
empty file.
