ubuntu 14.04: sshmenu disappeared

I've been a long time user of sshmenu, a small (ruby based) GUI
that allows me to maintain a list of ssh clients I often have to visit.

Ruby's gtk interface was changed (essentially libgtk2-ruby appears
to be gone now, and ruby-gtk2 is now the standard), and of course
sshmenu now doesn't work anymore.

Two options:

1) fix sshmenu (last update was june 2010), this probably means
    finding how what changed to the GTK interface.

2) find a suitable replacement.   I haven't found a suggested replacement
    for sshmenu, anybody using something to their liking?
