Seconded. Partly - because I'm using Maya.

I got sick of stupid problems on this netbook, like the mouse pad going
into scroll only mode and sticking there with no apparent means of
escape, or failing to shut down properly. Generally slow, not very
responsive. Oh yes, just remembered before sending this - I love using
evolution with my imap server, but evolution would usually take an age
to start up, sometimes never started up, and the desktop gave no clue
what was going on.

I think the underlying Ubuntu OS is good, but fouled up by that [insert
expletive] new desktop. Since switching to Mint Maya with Mate, all of
the problems have gone away. There's a couple of "features" I don't like
but it doesn't lock up and it shuts down properly when I'm done - every
time. And evolution _always_ starts up pronto, with a message on the bar
at the bottom that tells me it's doing so.

My desktop will get the same next time it's time to upgrade.

I wanted to try the Debian Mint but couldn't get it to
install/work/whatever. Can't remember exactly what the problem was now.

Maybe next time.

Dave
