Thunderbird flashing panel icon

After the other thread about Thunderbird updates, I checked and updated
mine to 24.1.0 (and my lightning to 2.6.2.

Since then, every time I get a new email, the icon in my panel flashes
until I click on it to load up Thunderbird.  This never happened before.
 Has anyone run into this?  Any ideas on how to turn it off?

I'm on Xubuntu 12.04 with XFCE 4.10.  Thanks for any pointers or guidance.
