big problem-deleted a directory in a gui file mgr-slip of the mouse

I was using Thunar. Re: the search: looked with catfish, not there. I 
remember a window poppeed up saying it was deleting.  When I saw it was 
my ops directory (tried to delete nitro), I immediately (almost!) closed 
the window.  If I copy the /home/john directory to a usb drive, will it 
include the deleted files (this just happened)?
