epiphany & java

I just installed the epiphany browser and am getting a message from a
page saying "You do not have Java applets enabled in your web browser,
or your browser is blocking this applet". I'm a complete noob when it
comes to epiphany; I don't know anything about it.

As far as I know, I do have java installed (the applet on that page
works in firefox, for example). The epiphany help says there should be
an Enable Java option in Preferences, but there is actually an Enable
Plugins one. And it is checked. There's nothing else in the help about
plugins so I have no idea whether there's something else I need to do.
