Have you got the latest HPLIP package installed? It is the "HP Linux
Imaging & Printing" package & adds drivers for all the
currently-supported HP devices in one install.

You can see the current version at the bottom of that page. Ubuntu
includes it, but due to packaging, testing, integration etc. it's
always a little bit out-of-date.

Download it, install it, connect your scanner & you should be good to go.
