FWIW I'm a Debian user - I've never considered Ubuntu to "Free". I'm surprised that you
think it is!

Use FOSS like Debian or Slackware if you want freedom. <shrug>

I also agree with Tom H., that this is a political issue, NOT a 
technical one.
