Nvidia card DVI out to HDMI TV

Got the driver that ubuntu reccomends in software and updates, still does
not know the tv is attached! It is not the wire as neither a brand new one
or the old one we first suspected as being faulty.

Note since I first asked the question we have discovered that Saul screen
is possible if we use dvi to dvi but not if using dvi to hdmi! (this
involved my small 15" monitor next to his not the tv as intended!) This
makes me think that the problem lies with hdmi support not dual screen
support!
