Why does every distribution upgrade remove xscreensaver?

When I did the same upgrade to the desktop, Synaptic said it was
installed.  Went to the command line to run it as I had done with the
laptop, but it did not execute.  Tried a second time and was prompted with
'Do you want to install this program?'  I went ahead and installed it and
ran it without a problem. Now it functions as it should.  Didn't look to
see if gnome-screensaver was re-installed during the upgrade since I was
back up and running again.

Obviously, a screensaver isn't high on the list of things to take care of
during an upgrade, but overall it went very smooth.  Only a few other minor
issues to take care of.  Gramps had to be reinstalled on one machine, while
it wasn't an issue on the other.  It was definitely a lot better than some
previous upgrades.
