I decided to start with a stock Ubuntu but I didn't like Unity too much.
So I tried Gnome and then kde. Kubuntu-desktop ended up being installed
as per some dependency or another. Now I'd like a way to step thru the
start up process to see where the error is coming from. I've looked
through the logs but haven't found anything interesting. I'm not even
sure I'm looking in the right logs.
