That's what I do!  My router is wireless but without a USB printer port. 
  (There are wireless routers that have a USB port.)

  My computers are a desktop and a laptop. I connect the printer to the 
desktop and then run SAMBA to share the printer. I use SAMBA because 
sometimes I get guests that need to connect Windows machines to my 
network.  (Yes I am VERY careful on who I let connect and share just 
what is necessary such as the printer.)
