Cannot connect to my internet connection after updating

Greetings list users,

Just installed ubuntu 12.04 LTS while I was connected to my router via
an ethernet connection. I installed 32 bit version of ubuntu on my
Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop. Everything worked fine until I did the
recommended updates via the Update Manager. Now I cannot connect to
the internet using a cable plugged in directly to my router or with
the onboard wireless card.

I need help. Not sure what to do.
