I tried that, too, and a new video card - nothing.  It doesn't go into
the boot PROM at all, so I can't even see what the CPU temp is.

I did notice that the memory I have is not on the list in the m/b
manual, so I suppose that could be it, but at this point I've torn out
enough hair and strained my back beyond the acceptable range for a
simple upgrade.

I give up - my current setup works great and it's fast enough, and I
really don't need an upgrade right now.  I'll save around $300 that I
don't have to spend.

A better deal is waiting for me, somewhere....
