I suggest just one on the left, then. This is the "natural" place for
a dock, where it uses least height (a precious resource on
widescreens, especially twin screens where horizontal space is
extremely abundant), and does not conflict with scrollbars on
maximised windows.

There are good reasons Canonical put it where they did. Yes, it's
annoying that you can't place it on another edge, but there is method
in their madness.
