You are, as ever, entirely welcome.

What Ric refers to is a tip I found for older hardware.

Ubuntu doesn't let you pick the colour depth of your display any more.
It's all-24-bit all the time.

But using a generic xorg.conf file, you can drop the colour depth to
16-bit colour. This really helps older GPUs to cope. Mainly applies to
turn-of-the-century aged machines, though.
