New printer, wine can't find

Greetings;

This new printer, a Brother HL-3170cdw, needs a firmware update badly.
But wine apparently can't deal with USB stuffs yet, is there a method to 
fix this, bearing in mind this user has not ever had a windows install, 
other than a lappy I wiped to put ManDrake, many years ago now.
