Tain't water, its soda pop, loaded with both sugar and salt. Take the
battery out NOW, and wash it out, best done believe it or not, in the
dishwasher with no soap in the soap pocket, using as little heat as the
dishwasher can be set to use. Then dry, in this cooler weather on the
north side of the equator, on a rack over a furnace vent, high enough not
to get more than about 35C. For a week or so. Then put the battery back
in & see if it will work.
