reducing size of an image in gimp

What is the photo saved as at the moment - which format? jpeg, png, 
tiff, what?

In gimp, save the file as a jpeg/jpg file and when you do you can adjust 
the size of the output file - from memory from either small or medium or 
large (ie, numbered from 1 to 9 or something)
