Anytime I am performing a task with high I/O to one of the HDDs. There are
three in the computer. The SDD, and two Western Digital platter drives.
The easiest test is to perform an "apt-get update" as it will always take
forever performing the "Reading package lists" process. However if I
perform a compile of code (for example cross compile the kernel), it is
slower than my old computer (Dual core athlon 64 with 4 GB of ram and a
platter drive). I started a filesystem creation (Building firmware for
embedded system) a couple of days ago and on my old computer this would
take a couple of hours, on the new one it has been running without
interruption for the last two days. :S

I believe so. I am in Canada and the download location selected is
Canadian. Though the download portion of the update goes fast, it is the
processing that slows down out.
