Wish to dual boot

Thanks for that,
but my problem is it will not run a live disk. Just goes straight 
through to Win8.
It can see the Ubuntu disk when win8 is running, but will not
run a live disk for me to be able to do anything. I am reasonably sure I 
can re-install win8
with the recovery disks, but cannot run a live disk to install Ubuntu, 
even if I use the full drive for it.
I don't really understand the "virtual drive" install, and I use Windows 
to try out open
source apps for those windows users I can't convert, so is better that I 
keep it.
