CPU TEMP

Hi
I have a strange problem in as much one of my 6 CPUs is maxed out at 
100%.  On checking "htop" I see that root is causing this. I am running 
12.10 on an AMD 64 system. This problem comes and goes. but does cause 
core temp. to rise when it happens. Any help would be appreciated.
