Well, out of interest, after seeing that Youtube video, I downloaded
8.04-4LTS and installed it into a Virtualbox VM, and fully updated it.
Then, following the instructions here:

I installed WP8.0 and now it is running successfully.

For my next trick, I'm going to see if I can extract it and get it
working on 12.04...
