Connecting to public wifi hotspots

Just a suggestion, could you check the proxy settings from IE
And check if it is set to auto detect proxy settings. If so, set your FF
on ubuntu to auto detect proxy settings for this network.
(preferences>>advanced>>network>>settings: 2nd option)
