Hi,
I have installed win 8 from recovery discs in legacy mode, was
originally installed UEFI,
Secure boot should be able to be turned off and still have UEFI if you
want it.
I have only been able to get Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit to install dual boot,
and used "boot-repair" as there was no
grub entry on screen after shutdown.
There is one more thing, win 8 doesn't completely "Shutdown", so it can
"fast startup", so you should get it to shutdown completely before it will
boot from any other bootable discs. e.g. Gparted. It wouldn't for me anyway.

Sorry this site is not Ubuntu related, but it helped me.

Hope this helps.

Take care
