When I first posted the information requested I got a automated notice
that my posting exceeded the 40 Kb size limit. (The posting was 74.5 Kb
in spite of the fact that I included only the portion of lsusb -v output
regarding the Importek camera.)

The moderator rejected it assuming that I was not on the list. So I had
to post it again.

The second time I posted it the moderate rejected it because it was too big.

As it's not my machine, the owner uses it primarily for Skype when he's
is on the road, and the owner doesn't care what the under lying OS is,
I've given up and ordered, at what I consider a horrific price, a
Windows recovery kit from HP.

Thanks for all the suggestions from all the people who tried to help.
