ASSIST ME FIX THE PROBLEM WITH MY UPDATE MANAGER : SAIAD OMAR FAROOQ

Hello,
I am Saiad from India. I have the following problem with my Ubuntu Update
Manger;
saiad at saiad:~$ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
[sudo] password for saiad:
Reading package lists... Error!
E: Unable to parse package file
/var/lib/apt/lists/in.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_precise-updates_universe_i18n_Translation-en

E: Problem opening
/var/lib/apt/lists/security.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_precise-security_main_binary-i386_Packages
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

Please advise how to fix this problem.
