More than likely its the mouse. The switch is either getting funkity, or
has cracked its solder where its attached to the board, so you get one
closure when you press the button, but it over travels & breaks the
circuit, then when you release, the solder joint makes connection again,
which is the second click to the software, and finally the switch opens,
completing making one button push into 2 clicks.
If you know somebody really good with a soldering iron, its fixable but may
need a new switch. Barring that, go get a fresh mouse. But I'd advise
steering a wide path around those mice with a touchpad in place of the
scroll wheel. I have one and will never buy another. It has yet to do
what my finger sliding on it tell it to do.
Also they are all optical now, so pick it up and look to see where on the
bottom the optical unit is. If its near the back of the mouse, under your
palm, you will never get the motions you expect, it needs to be near the
front of the mouse, under your fingertips to work well for most folks.
Unforch, the mouse makers have discovered that, the $15 one is crap because
of that, and they want another $75 for the exact same electronics but with
the "eye" where it really belongs.
I have a selected piece of white ash to be made into a club to beat
somebody over the head with, if I could ever figure who to beat for maximum
effect. No use wasting a perfectly good beatdown on a secretary. ;p)
Or maybe I'm just a crotchety old C.E.T.
Cheers, Gene

A fool must now and then be right by chance.
A pen in the hand of this president is far more

law-abiding citizens.
