As the problem can occur several times a day, it is getting rather annoying. The other computer using the same router is not having any problems.
BCM - Is that Broadcom?
I've got a rather old P4 HP Pavilion ze5232 that was given to me by a
friend-of-a-friend rather than chuck it away. I stripped it down
completely, installed WiFi antennas, renewed the processor heat sink
compound, put it back together. Then I got an internal WiFi card from
somebody on ebay, which turned out to be a Broadcom.
I was getting similar symptoms only mine was losing the WiFi completely,
and only a reboot would get it going again. Plus it was a load of
messing about to get it working in the first place.
Got fed up with it, pinched another WiFi card from another old laptop
that needs the hinges replaced, swapped it for the Broadcom card, and it
"Just Works". We can now switch on the laptop early morning, use it all
day and evening, and it all works perfectly until it gets switched off
at midnight, no problems at all with the WiFi at all.
The card that works has an Atheros chip on it. A PCMCIA WiFi card I have
also has an Atheros chip, and that also works perfectly.
Using Linux Mint Maya with Mate.
