system failure

I have a problem with my PC and would welcome useful advice, please. I 
usually use Xubuntu 12.04 and recently an input problem has arisen - a 
short time after booting the keyboard becomes inactive and only the 
mouse pointer works not the buttons.As an experiment, I installed Ubuntu 
12.04 and a short time after booting a message appeared telling me that 
there was a System program problem detected and the following path was 
shown:-

  /usr/share/support-gpu-error-intel.py

The odd thing is that this PC is set to dual boot into Windows XP Pro 
and there appears to be no problem using Windows applications. It is 
noticeable, however, that there is intermittent HDD activity even when 
the PC is left idle.
