Upgrade to Udisks 2.0 to get a working floppy drive?

Super. Quite why floppy support is important to you beyond me (and
this is coming from someone who's preferred operating of choice [MVS]
still supports punched cards).

Only you can decide if you want to upgrade. Is it an important
machine - if so, duplex it and and upgrade in stages. dist-upgrade
should take care of things for you.
