I'm sorry, but I find this hilarious. Ubuntu included a feature which I 
actually use a lot and enjoy. It amazes me how people knee jerk to such 
things. People need to understand the future of the desktop is all about 
integration -- be it social networking or shopping.

If you're really that concerned about security and privacy, disconnect 
your computer from the network and have at it.
