Richard,

I usually reserve a couple of partitions in my HDs to fresh-install a
new release without messing with my release of choice. Most times I
eventually opt to use the new environment but not always. There are
interesting additions regarding cloud management in 12.10, but they
are not essential for most users. Anyway 12.10 has just been released,
it's just too early to upgrade. In my opinion.
