Suddenly ... no audio at all

i had a similar incident here, seems a kernel default changed, the
following helped me out:

alsamixer -D hw:0

go to the SPDIF entry and hit m (mute)

if this fix works for you too, thats definitely a regression that needs
to be fixed)
