Number of cores

Hello,

I've two twin machines with a "Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU X 990 @ 3.47GHz" 
processor.

On the first of them the OS is Lucid, and /proc/cpuinfo says it has 12 
cores. Kernel 2.6.32-44-generic #98-Ubuntu SMP Mon Sep 24 17:27:10 UTC 
2012 x86_64 GNU/Linux.

On the second one the OS is Precise, and /proc/cpuinfo says it has 6 
cores. Kernel 3.2.0-33-generic #52-Ubuntu SMP Thu Oct 18 16:29:15 UTC 
2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux.

Do you know what is happening?. Could you help me, please?.
